Why Host Nation?

Our industry can be a solitary existence. As operators working long hours, we often long for a gang for hosts with whom you can share frustrations, grizzly stories, collaborate, laugh with and generally improve your hosting game.

Whether you have a cottage in the bush, a humble tiny home, glamping tents or a beach shack, a vast country property, motel or boutique pub.... this gathering is for you! If becoming a host is but a dream you've been chasing, this is where you can start making it happen.

We are bringing together the experts in our field. People who have created wonderful destination accommodation, experiences and accommodation businesses. We'll unlock the secrets of success and how to stand out from the crowd and level-up in a challenging market. There will also be heaps of inspiration about decor, branding, events and investing.

The very first Host Nation event will be happening on the glorious South Coast of New South Wales where hosting is the main accommodation game in town. We will be bringing some of the best hosts in the business to the one place along with online marketing pros, interior designers and stylists, experience gurus and those with business nous. Its all about creating amazing destination accommodation, the kind of place people will travel to stay in, no matter where it may be.

My Beach Shack beginnings

I'm Catherine, one of the founders of HN. I've been a host for two decades (am I giving away my age?!). It all started as a side hustle and getaway for my hubby and I, pre-parenthood. We bought an old fibro shack on the shores of Jervis Bay, did a modest renovation and caught the "flip" bug. A run of beach shack purchases and renovations followed and we had an accidental short term rental business.

We now take on all kinds of property projects but vintage or heritage houses are our absolute favourites. This image is of a recent project, vintage beach cottages in Currarong.
